Yoga Teacher Training in Spain: My Recommendations for 2025
I’ll let you in on a little secret – I’ve been in love with Spain since I first visited at age 18.
So naturally, when I decided to go on my first yoga retreat, I chose Spain. Then, when I wanted to take an advanced yoga course, I headed to Spain again.
There’s just something magical about practicing yoga in Spain. Perhaps it’s the laid-back lifestyle (hello, daily siestas!), the serene natural landscapes, or the warm Mediterranean sun that invites you to step onto your mat each morning and embrace the day.
If you’re looking for the perfect place to do your yoga teacher training, let me share why Spain is among the top choices (if not the best) for YTTs in Europe!
I’ll also give you my top recommendations for yoga teacher training in Spain that blend Spanish culture with yogic philosophy and teachings!

Why You Should Do Yoga Training in Spain
Spain offers much more than sunshine and siestas; It’s the ideal combination of nature, culture, and wellness.
Inspiring Natural Beauty
If your ideal yoga teacher training is with ocean views and a beachfront shala, you’ll find many choices in Spain, thanks to the abundance of serene beaches along the Mediterranean coast.
Alternatively, if you prefer land over sand, there’s endless peaceful countryside and tranquil mountains like the Sierra Nevada.
Cultural Immersion
Spain has a rich cultural heritage, which varies from region to region. While deepening your yoga practice, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the country’s history, art, traditions, and cuisine. Yoga, sangria, and tapas sound like a vibe to me!
Wellness Vibe
Spain is home to many well-respected yoga schools and wellness centers, and most Spanish cities have good access to health and wellness facilities. Spanish food is known for being fresh and healthy, and the famous siesta culture further supports Spain’s holistic lifestyle.
How To Choose A Yoga School in Spain
Most people searching for the best yoga teacher training in Spain think solely about location. While the location is important (and I’ll share the best areas below), there are some other crucial aspects to look into to ensure you have a truly life-changing experience!
Certification (RYT200)
The most important thing to ensure is that your yoga teacher training in Spain is a Yoga Alliance certified course.
Not all yoga schools are registered with Yoga Alliance. If they are, you’ll gain a Yoga Alliance certification upon completing the course and will be able to become a Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher (RYT).
Yoga Alliance-certified courses are either RYT200, the foundational 200-hour YTT, or RYT300, the advanced 300-hour course.
You don’t have to do a Yoga Alliance-certified course to teach yoga, but some yoga studios may require you to have these credentials to teach there.
Yoga Style
Next, consider which yoga style you want to become a certified yoga teacher in.
Most yoga teacher training courses in Spain specialize in a specific lineage, such as Hatha or Vinyasa yoga. So, if you have a favorite yoga style, choosing a course that studies that style in-depth makes sense.
Some YTTs are multi-style, which prepares you to teach multiple styles like Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin yoga. These courses are a good option if you’re unsure which style you want to teach or prefer a varied yoga practice.
Reputation & Reviews
I highly recommend researching the yoga school in Spain that interests you. The best way to do this is by reading the reviews on reputable booking sites like BookYogaTeacherTraining and BookRetreats.
On these sites, the reviews are honest experiences from real people who have done that specific yoga teacher training.
Reading reviews can give you an idea of what to expect from the YTT and understand if it is what you are looking for. Reviews can also reveal the quality of teaching, what the lead yoga instructor is like, and what the course lacks.
Best Locations for Yoga
Now, let’s discuss location! Where is the best place in Spain to become a certified yoga teacher?
The truth is, there is not one answer, as Spain is FULL of beautiful cities, towns, and countryside. So where you choose will depend on what vibe and scenery you prefer, as well as your budget.
Let’s take a look at the most popular places to do a yoga teacher training in Spain. Many of these areas are also good for Spanish yoga retreats if you just want to test the waters before committing to an advanced 200-hour YTT.
Costa del Sol (Malaga, Marbella)
Translating to the “Coast of the Sun,” this 150km stretch of coastline runs along southern Spain, including popular tourist destinations like Malaga and Marbella.
Costa del Sol is famed for its warm Mediterranean climate, with over 300 days of sunshine a year. The area also tends to have a slower pace of life than Spain’s larger, bustling cities.
Because of this, you’ll find many yoga teacher training courses throughout the Costa Del Sol.
Andalusia (Cadiz, Seville, Granada)
Inland from the Costa Del Sol is the beautiful region of Andalusia. This area is known for its rich cultural heritage, warm Mediterranean climate, and diverse landscapes.
Because the nature here is so varied, choosing a yoga teacher training in Andalusia means you could be practicing yoga in the mountains, the rolling hills, or even by the port!
Costa Blanca (Alicante)
The “White Coast” refers to southeast Spain, covering the province of Alicante and part of Valencia. If you dream of sunbathing and swimming in-between lessons, Costa Blanca is a top choice thanks to its crystal-clear waters, golden beaches, and warm climate.
Catalonia (Barcelona)
Barcelona is for you if you’re looking for a vibrant yet cultural city to train to become a yoga teacher. Barcelona has the unique benefit of a city and a beach, keeping the vibe a perfect balance between lively and chilled.
Moreover, the city’s rich culture and artistic energy will help you tap into your creativity and open your mind to new ideas.
Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura)
While not located on the mainland, the Canary Islands are another of the most popular places in Spain for yoga training. One of the biggest appeals of the Canary Islands is the year-round mild climate, making winter YTTs both possible and enjoyable here.
Located off the northwest coast of Africa, the islands also offer diverse terrains from mainland Spain, such as volcanic mountains, jungle-like forests, and black sand beaches.

Preparing For Your Yoga Teacher Training
Once you’ve found the perfect Spain yoga course, it’s time to plan your trip. Let’s discuss when to visit, how to get there, and what to bring to ensure you have the best yoga teacher training experience!
Seasons & Weather
While Spain is known for its warm weather and abundant sunshine, this doesn’t mean every region experiences idyllic weather all year round.
Northern Spain can get pretty cold during the winter, while inland cities in Andalusia, such as Seville, can get uncomfortably hot during summer.
The south coast of Spain (Costa Del Sol) stays relatively warm all year round, but the Canary Islands are a top choice if you’re seeking a winter yoga retreat or YTT. The Canary Islands have a consistently pleasant climate, never getting too hot or too cold.
Getting There
Spain boosts well-connected international airports all over the country, including Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, and Malaga. It’s also easy to travel around the country either by train or domestic flights.
Be sure to check the nearest airport to your yoga teacher training school and whether the school provides airport transfers.
What To Bring With You
What you need to bring will depend on the season you’re visiting. If you’re visiting mainland Spain during the winter you’ll need some warm jumpers and a jacket as the mornings and evenings can get cold.
If you’re visiting during other seasons, it’s still a good idea to bring plenty of layers in case of sudden weather changes. And if you’re heading to a coastal destination (or your yoga school has a pool), don’t forget your swimwear!
